The Yamas - 1/8
Manage episode 348604523 series 3273773
In this episode, the hosts discuss the first limb of Yoga, the Yamas. The Yamas (restraints) are part of Yoga's ethical code, which underscores the importance of being in alignment on all levels of engagement. Next episode, they will expand into the second limb, The Niyamas (observances).
They break it down into the five parts and offer anecdotes & quotes from other sources to paint a real-life picture of what it looks like to live these tenets (or at least be aware of them so they can be worked with in real time).
The Five Yamas are:
- Ahimsa - do no harm, non-violence
- Satya - truthfulness
- Asteya - non-stealing not taking what is not freely offered
- Bramacharya - wise use of energy, self-control, moderation
- Aparigraha - non-hoarding, non-possessiveness
