Welcome back to The TEFLology Podcast! A podcast all about teaching English as a foreign language, and related matters. The current uncertain situation has meant, at times, that institutions may not have treated their workers fairly and respectfully, and in some cases, may have acted illegally. As a result, unions have found themselves continuing to play a pivotal and important role in supporting and standing up for the rights of those working in the language teaching industry. This episode features the stories of six individuals related to the TEFL Workers' union, based across the UK and Ireland. The TEFL Workers' Union is a union for foreign language teachers in the UK organised by the industrial workers of the world (IWW). The union was formed in 2019, and represents cleaners, teachers, admin staff and interns. The union has fought for paid meetings, paid continuing professional development activities, paid sick days, and an end to zero-hours contracts. More about the TEFL Workers' Union and IWW can be found here - https://www.facebook.com/teflworkers/ Get in contact with us: If you like our show, please consider showing your support with a small donation, visit our website for more details.
