To research the book, Elizabeth traveled across the country, immersing herself in a wide range of animal festivals — from the Iditarod dog sled race to the rattlesnake roundup in Sweetwater, Texas. Elizabeth examines these festivals as revealing microcosms of our broader relationship with animals. Volusia County law enforcement tracks a speeding carjacking suspect on I-95 just before a head-on collision that killed two Wisconsin siblings.
A Port Orange man was charged with attempted first-degree murder after chasing a woman. shooting at her and repeatedly ramming her vehicle, police said.
An armed, suicidal man called a friend in Maryland to say he had shot himself. The friend called DeLand 9-1-1 to report it, which led to an armed standoff with DeLand police, Volusia County Sheriff's deputies, a bomb squad, and an ultimately peaceful resolution with the unwounded man.
On Tuesday Volusia County firefighters were called to Bear Paw Lane and Bright Way around 1:30 p.m. to reports of a white Mercedes Benz on fire.A body was found inside.

Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a DeBary man Tuesday on a charge of aggravated assault after he intentionally coughed on a retail store employee, claiming social distancing because of the coronavirus pandemic is “getting out of hand.”

An off-duty Orange County Sheriff’s deputy was walking his dogs when he said a pit bull attacked his dogs and threatened him, so he shot the pit bull , according to a report. The pit bull’s owner disputes that account.
