In the sermon on Romans 3:1–8, we learnt a new term — ‘diatribes’! Chris took us through Paul’s series of questions and answers (diatribes) that he used to address questions that might arise in response to his teaching about the gospel. Paul’s instruction helped us ponder as a church: Do we value God’s Word as much as Paul did? Do we understand & behold God’s sovereignty & faithfulness? Do we hold God’s righteousness in highest regard, without being clouded by our own human definitions? Ultimately, we were reminded that to “put God on trial” is to fail to recognise our unrighteousness and God’s glory. But we as Christians are not treated as our unrighteousness deserves, because of Jesus’ sacrifice.
