Guest Bio: Wim Vertriest is manager of Field Gemology at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and Curator of the Institute's Colored Stone Research Collection. Originally from Belgium where he graduated as a geologist, Wim is now based in the global capital of gemstones, Bangkok, where he is the Wim is Manager of Field Gemology at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and Curator of the Institute's Colored Stone Research Collection.
He has first-hand knowledge of gem mining and has travelled, lectured and written extensively on coloured gems. He says he can find his way around the world’s gemstone mining areas just as easily as navigating the microscopic internal world of gemstones.
