The carbon footprint of concrete production
Manage episode 340625864 series 3271549
Shaun is the Founder of NanoCrete. He is a passionate problem solver who decided to find and develop marketable solutions to help mitigate some of the effects of human worsening climate change. Having begun this journey looking at industrial hemp and biomass as a means of dramatically reducing emissions in the building materials space, prevailing market conditions and the (understandable) hesitation from farmers to plant industrial hemp crops have necessitated a pivot. After doing all the research he could determine that using waste plastics as a feedstock material would be best. For this morning, we’ll talk about: 1. The carbon footprint of concrete production 2. US plastic recycling rates are at 5% according to Reuters 3. Avenues for corporations to buy Carbon Removal; Purchase Agreements/credits are opening up 4. NanoCrete is building a team to help corporations meet their emissions targets 5. Their final product and mixture of carbon solids graphite and graphene will be incorporated into concrete as a supplementary cementitious material
