Reflections on Andersonville Civil War Prison
Manage episode 407408389 series 3559858
In this episode, the Unpopped Colonels travel to the Andersonville Civil War Prison located in Andersonville, Georgia. It was a solemn visit, to say the least. Hastily constructed in 1864, the 16-acre site saw 45,000 Union Soldiers, now Prisoners of War, enter through the massive Andersonville gates, 13,000 of whom never returned home. Being Soldiers ourselves, we felt the dispair of the Union prisoners as if we were walking among them; equally, we empathized with the Confederate Garrison being placed in an untennable situation.
This episode is less of a history lesson and more on the reflections of these two Soldiers. We wonder if the spirits still living there - Union and Confederate alike - stopped and watched these two Army Colonels - one of Northern heritage and the other of Southern heritage - walking respectfully together discussing their thoughts.
