Debbie Reynolds “The Data Diva” talks to Collin Walke, Attorney and State Representative, State of Oklahoma. We discuss Collin’s authorship of the first opt-in Data Privacy bill in the US, his service on numerous working groups and committees as a state representative, his path to Data Privacy, a revelation about data brokers and challenges of state by state laws, the states taking the lead on Data Privacy, the lack of privacy at our foundation, the legislative process for how bills get passed in US states, the difficulty involved in presenting legislation and the example of California, the desire of each state to do privacy differently and corporate, political and other influences, the success of the NY Shield Act and BIPA in Illinois, slow progress of US compared to EU on privacy regulations, privacy needs to be a long term goal, the need for a separate agency to oversee privacy, lack of a cohesive national approach to privacy and the digital divide, the problem with the 3rd party doctrine and privacy, consent without real choice and his hope for Data Privacy in the future.
