In the morning, Van Helsing and Seward return to Lucy’s home. They are welcomed by Lady Westenra, who informs them that Lucy is doing very well, and she removed all of the horrid plants from her room which made it very stuffy. Trying to keep their cool, the two men head to Lucy’s; entering they find Lucy in a very sick state. Van Helsing nearly collapses with anger and insists upon another transfusion, giving from himself this time, to try and restore Lucy again. Following the final transfusion, Van Helsing stays up with Lucy for the next four days, she truly seems to be on the mend.
In a newspaper article, a journalist reports on an escaped wolf from the Zoological Gardens. Talking to the keeper, the journalist finds out the wolf started acting strangely after seeing a strange foreign man, and later that night escaped. The following morning however, the wolf returned as if nothing had happened, but with a couple of scratches from Broken Glass.
Van Helsing telegrams to Seward, asking him to stay with Lucy, but the address was not written on it properly, and Seward does not receive it until the following day. That night, Lucy awakens scared by the sound of a flapping bat outside her window and a nearby howling. Her mother was also scared by the noises and came to check on Lucy, worried about her health. Suddenly a huge wolf appears at the window, shattering the glass, causing a heart attack in Mrs Westenra, at the attack, Lucy feints. The maids enter the room after hearing the noise, and panic at the scene. They all go to the dining room and have some wine to calm themselves, but all pass out, only finding out later that they had been drugged. Left all alone, Lucy tries to write something of the nights events hoping that someone will find it when they check on her.
