The Trump administration secured more victories over the weekend, starting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio's trip to Panama. Rubio was able to ensure that Panama will leave the Chinese belt and road initiative. Belt and road is a massive infrastructure plan that would boost China's global influence within the participating countries. After Panama's exit, will other participating countries be inclined to leave the initiative? Trump announced a 25% tariff on Canada and Mexico, and it didn't take long for Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum to concede. President Sheinbaum paused Mexico's retaliatory tariffs on the U.S. and pledged to send 10,000 troops to the border to stop the flow of fentanyl and illegal immigration into the united States. It was a brilliant use of leverage and opened up an opportunity to make a deal. Now the question is what will Canada do? Is the EU next to be targeted by Trump tariffs?
