According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (2018), “Many people don't understand why or how other people become addicted to drugs. They may mistakenly think that those who use drugs lack moral principles or willpower and that they could stop their drug use simply by choosing to. In reality, drug addiction is a complex disease, and quitting usually takes more than good intentions or a strong will. Drugs change the brain in ways that make quitting hard, even for those who want to.”

Tina Locklear, MSW, LCSWA is featured in a Missions Mosaic article titled, "Getting to be Me,” by Shelli Littleton. Through Missions Mosaic, Ms. Locklear shared her experience of longterm recovery and the supports that provided her a strong foundation. In addition, Ms. Locklear is currently employed with a non-profit organization focusing on mental health and substance abuse.

The aim of this There is Power in Your Story podcast conversation is to discuss Ms. Locklear’s story of removing the mask and transitioning into longterm recovery.
