82: Rick Irvine: Journey to Conquer Everest and Embrace Retirement
Manage episode 407082634 series 3557606
Caleb and Riley are joined by Rick Irvine, a retired engineer that summited Mount Everest at age 59. At 59-years-old, Rick Irvine from Minto New Brunswick was the first New Brunswicker to scale Mount Everest. On May 24, Rick reached the 8,848-metre summit of the world’s tallest mountain. What I found particularly amazing about Rick though is that he wasn’t always a die-hard mountaineer. Reaching the top of Mount Everest wasn't a lifelong goal for him. In fact he only started climbing about 10 years prior. Learn more about:
- Drawing inspiration to try and do something new as Rick Irvine shares his path from small town Nova Scotia to the summit of Mount Everest.
- The triumphs and challenges of two daring attempts at conquering Mount Everest, gaining valuable insights into the physical and mental preparation required
- Rick's personal transition from a fulfilling career to navigating and fully embracing his own robust retirement.
