Manage episode 420540312 series 3549133
S1, E20
Back to the islands this week, but this time we adventure to Kelleys Island – Ohio’s largest island and we get a little cultured. Did you know there is an amazing artist who has a gallery and sculpture garden right on the island? The perfect place for a quiet walk, some introspection, and art appreciation. Jill and Dayton interview Carmen Smith, gallery manager for the Charles Herndon Galleries and Sculpture Garden. Carmen educates us on Charles and his history and what kind of art he creates – almost exclusively sculpture made of stone sourced directly from the island. We learn about what you can see when you visit the indoor gallery and how visitors can enjoy the outdoor garden area, including paved trails and an all-new picnic patio overlooking the lake. Carmen tells us about Thursday demo days, where guests can watch glass blowing demonstrations among other artistic medium demonstrations. The gallery is open Thursday-Monday, but the gardens are available to enjoy 7 days a week. We also hear about some fun upcoming events being hosted on the property and the visiting artists who exhibit and sell their wares at the gallery as well. Need to know how to get there? Carmen gives us step-by-step directions so you can find this island hidden gem. Get the details at CharlesHerndon.com.
