The Peace of God
Philippians 4:4-9
I. What to do when peace is lacking v.4-7
a. Expressed he is in prison 1:7 & 1:12-13
b. That some of his peers only preach Jesus out of rivalry with Paul. 1:15 & 17
c. That his own execution is a real possibility 1:20 & 2:17
d. That he has endured different forms of suffering 1:30 & 3:7
e. He has endured the near death of a close friend 2:25-29
f. He has left behind his former life of prestige 3:4-6
g. That loved ones have abandoned their faith to satiate their worldly appetites 3:18-19
h. And that he has been dealing with two friends bickering at one another 4:2
I. What to do when peace is lacking v.4-7
A. Where peace comes from v. 6
B. Peace does not come from a change of circumstances
Where do you find peace?
II. Right thinking leads to right action v. 8-9
a. true - accordance with fact
b. honorable - worthy, holy, above reproach
c. just - right, equitable
d. pure - an attribute of divinity and everything belonging to it
e. lovely - causing pleasure or delight, pleasing, amiable
f. commendable - praiseworthy
g. excellence - excellence of character exceptional civic virtue
h. praise - admiration, approval
II. Right thinking leads to right action v. 8-9
A. "Think about such things" v.8

B. "Practice such things" v.9

Mental worship:
1) How does your body show you, you are not at peace?
2) What things predominately fill your mind? Would they fall under Paul's list in v.8?
3) What lenses do you see the world through? (ex. preference, politics, experience, scripture, etc.)
4) Who do you have in your life who calls out falsehoods you believe?
5) When will you do the applications shared this week?
