President Biden has directly addressed the storm of criticism he’s faced of his stumbling performance in a TV debate with rival presidential candidate Donald Trump. Mr Biden told supporters “When you get knocked down you get back up”. Mr Biden acknowledged that he is indeed old, but said he can still beat the former president in the November US election. He said: “I know I’m not a young man, to the state the obvious. Well, I know I don’t walk as easy as I used to, I don’t speak as smoothly as I used to, I don’t debate as well as I used to, but I know what I do know. I know how to tell the truth.” Democrats have expressed great unease at the president's shaky debate performance, with party insiders admitting that some of his answers triggered panic in their campaign. Mr Biden's team insists the president will not step down as the Democratic candidate and that he will debate Donald Trump again in September.
