In this Eggrolls with Andy event for John & Waleed (in association with Cahoots Theatre), we speak with Tamam McCallum, Executive director of Turtle House Art/Play Centre, a unique art-based organization in Toronto, designed primarily for children and families from refugee backgrounds to explore their creativity, play, express themselves and make meaningful connections. Tamam McCallum is the founding Executive Director of Turtle House Art/Play Centre, a unique art-based organization in Toronto, for children and parents from refugee backgrounds to explore their creativity, play, express themselves and make meaningful connections. Tamam is an innovator and a visionary, identifying a community’s needs and developing organizations and programs aimed at addressing these needs. She has founded organizations which have stood the test of time and improved the lives of immigrant and refugee families. She has been a family counsellor within community based settings, including at Family Service Toronto. As a former professor at George Brown College, she taught counselling and community development courses. In 2007, Tamam McCallum was honoured by the YWCA as the Woman of Distinction for Community Development.
