Kia ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 10 Episode 66 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Friday morning 06 September 2024.
Happy birthday SAS Bill Beddoes!
Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is cloudy and 19 degrees Celsius at 5am this morning!
In Rugby League: The Storm flexed their muscle early at Suncorp last night, scoring four tries in the first 21 minutes to make a big statement ahead of the NRL finals with a thunderous 50-12 win over a hopeless Broncos posse.
The result also marked Craig Bellamy’s 400th win as an NRL Coach.
So, is Kevy a dead man walking?
In Rugby Union: The Asahi Super Dry Pacific Nations Cup this weekend, sees Tonga playing Fiji in Nuku’alofa today and Japan hosting USA in Kumagaya tomorrow.
Fiji only needs one match point to secure their qualification as Pool A winners, while Tonga must record an unlikely bonus-point win by at least 27 points to reach the semi-finals.
Japan and USA have already qualified with wins over Canada and the winner of their Test on Saturday will take the top spot in Pool B.
Meanwhile, Scott Robertson has made four changes to the All Blacks starting XV to play South Africa in Cape Town early Sunday morning.
Cortez Ratima starts at halfback, with Mark Tele’a and Sevu Reece forming a new look back three, with fullback Will Jordan.
Wallace Sititi starts at blindside flanker, while Luke Jacobson takes his place on the reserves bench, alongside the Maori - TJP and Beauden B.
In case you’re wondering? Caleb Clarke and Ethan Blackadder were unavailable due to injury.
In the WNBA: Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever clinched a playoff berth Tuesday after losses by the Chicago Sky and Atlanta Dream—and it’s a clear win for the WNBA that Clark will make her postseason debut in her rookie season.
There have been 21 WNBA games with more than one million viewers this season, including the All-Star Game, and 18 featured Clark.
If the NCAA is any indication, playoff games with Clark will bring historic numbers:
  • The 2023–2024 Iowa Hawkeyes played a few games that reached one million viewers during the regular season, including one game with 3.4 million.
  • In the NCAA tournament, those numbers skyrocketed to at least 10 million viewers for each of the team’s final three games starting from the Elite Eight and a record 18.9 million viewers in the NCAA championship game.

In SportsBiz: With Maine, North Carolina and Vermont having legalized sports gambling in the last 12 months, the American Gaming Association projects American adults will wager US$35Billion on NFL games with legal betting agencies throughout the 2024 season, up 31% from what the AGA estimates was legally bet on the NFL during the 2023 season.
And finally, the US Open Tennis is one of the great occasions to see and be seen in New York.
It doesn’t come with a dress code too, the way that other Grand Slams do – we know who.
Celebrities show up in droves and photographers follow.
Plus 2024 has an added buzz in the air, given that there will be an American - either Taylor Fritz or Frances Tiafoe in the Men’s final for the first time since Andy Roddick in 2006.
So the stage is set – lights, camera and action:
  • ·Roger Federer looked euro-suave in navy on navy sporting an exclusive Rolex Daytona.
  • In contrast, John Mayer showed that you don’t have to overcomplicate things in the summer: The Blues guitar virtuoso looked cool in a light coloured camp collar shirt with a print.
  • Serena Williams & Alicia Keys wore kalavata sulu & jaba!

And that’s a wrap peeps!
