Kia ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula & Welcome to Season 10 Episode 79 of Breakfast Bites the FIJI & PACIFIC SPORTS NEWS PODCAST, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Friday morning 20 September 2024.
Happy birthday Linda Peterson!
Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, and a polar blast 18 degrees Celsius again at 5am this morning.
In Rugby Union: All the big southern hemisphere rugby this weekend the All Blacks versus the Wes in Sydney on Saturday at 5:35 p.m. New Zealand time.
Manu Samo versus USA in Japan at 7.00 p.m. Fiji versus Japan at 10 p.m. in the PNC final and South Africa versus Los Pumas 9:00 a.m. Sunday in Argentina
In Rugby League: So far so good for the Cowboys build-up for their NRL elimination final against the Sharks at Allianz Stadium in Sydney tonight. They caught a charter flight down from Townsville early yesterday afternoon and are all ready to go.
Tomorrow night, we tip the Sydney Roosters to cockadoodoo Manly Sea Eagles.
In Sports Biz: LIV Golf will finish its third season this weekend in Dallas with the controversial tour’s US$50Million team championship event.
And while questions remain about LIV’s future, with or without the PGA Tour, LIV Golf has just released dates and golf courses for their first four tournaments in 2025.
But before that happens, there’s some intriguing and potentially very expensive business to finish on the golf course.
Jon Rahm joined LIV in December 2023 after signing a contract worth more than US$300M.
Last Sunday, he earned a US$18M bonus after winning in Chicago and clinching the season-long individual points championship.
For this week’s team championship, the four players on each squad will take home 10% each of:
· First: US$14Million
· Second: US$8M
· Third: US$6M
· Fourth: US$4M
· Fifth: US$3.3M
In Combat Sports: In only his fourth professional fight, 19-year-old Lilo Telepe, born in Otara, Auckland, but now fighting out of Australia, announced himself as the Next Big Thing of Aussie boxing after scoring a huge upset over fellow undefeated Super Welterwieght, Luke Gersbeck last night in Melbourne.
Dubbed ‘Tank’ Telepe dropped Gersbeck in the second round, then fourth before finishing him off with a flurry of punches.
In the NFL: The NFL has fined New Orleans Saints Quarterback Derek Carr US$14,000 for his touchdown celebration against the Dallas Cowboys that mimicked a Michael Jackson dance move, including his customary “crotch grab.”
Once upon a time, the NFL had no problem with Michael Jackson dance moves; as performed by Michael Jackson, at Super Bowl no less.
That said, the NFL has a long history of fining guys who grab their crotch.
Also, the Saints trashed the Cowboys 19-44 so you just gotta dance right?
That’s a wrap Peeps!
