Manage episode 389703224 series 3365288
Topic of the Week (12/15/23):
Last edition of Captain's Log Holiday Edition before we break for the holiday season! We return January 12, 2024!
The Maritime Professorᵀᴹ presents By Land and By Sea - an attorney breaking down the week in supply chain
with Lauren Beagen (Founder of The Maritime Professorᵀᴹ and Squall Strategies)
Let's dive in...
1 - The Federal Maritime Commission is still working through three rulemakings. No new updates, but the US Transportation Command submitted a comment to the Unreasonable Refusal to Deal or Negotiation w/r/t Vessel Space Accommodations rulemaking re: government cargo and a consideration for refusals to provide cargo space accommodation for those government holds.

2 - You should be paying attention to both the Suez Canal Authority and the Canal de Panamá. And having ongoing concerns/watches on both of the world's larges canals aggregates to a more troubling position (not catastrophic, but troubling).
3 - Rachel Premack of FreightWaves published an article "We're still at risk for another 'everything shortage'" and I have some reactions - mostly that I think the industry is paying attention closer now than they ever have before, and that's progress.

4 - Timothy Dooner on What the Truck?!? (#WTT) interviewed TransForce on their initiative to encourage Mattel, Inc. to make a trucker barbie!
