December 11, 2022. Somewhere in Berlin, Modupeh and Naikee complete the transformation of a relatively banal room into a haven of peace, sweetness and joy for Black trans people. Outside the temperature is close to freezing, a cold wind chases the bodies through the streets, but soon the place will be filled with Black trans people, their meetings or reunions, the sound of conversations, laughter, the glow of their emotions, loudly or silently, in English, French and maybe even German. Each guest at T*R*A*P*$’s 3rd Black Trans Brunch is greeted with gifts – tote bags, badges, books, calendars, Afro-futuristic coloring books – and delicious West African food. We don’t know what the holidays will bring, but the T*R*A*P*$ brunch main gift is an incredibly amount of love, kindness and sweetness for Black trans people. Two hearts, united under the acronym T*R*A*P*$ for Trans – Radical – Afro-Diasporic – Princexesses – Surviving & Thriving, see to it. Huge thanks to Modupeh and Naikee for the magic of T*R*A*P*$*.
