The Sisters of the Holy Family are a Roman Catholic religious order based in New Orleans, Louisiana. They were founded as one of the first black religious orders in 1837 as the Sisters of the Presentation by Henriette DeLille, adopting the current name in 1842. The sisters provided a home for orphans and taught slaves at a time under Louisiana law when educating slaves was illegal. They also established the first and oldest Catholic nursing home in the United States in 1841. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/shalonecason1/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/shalonecason1/support
