Dunia kehutanan tidak dapat terlepas dari peran teknologi di dalamnya, salah satunya pemanfaatan Sistem Informasi Geografis (SIG). Teknologi ini mengandalkan proses pengamatan dan citra jarak jauh tanpa harus melakukan ground checking ke lapangan yang tentunya meningkatkan efisiensi di berbagai skala riset. Pada proses perencanaan suatu upaya restorasi, teknologi SIG dapat melihat kondisi suatu bentang alam pada kondisi saat ini maupun di masa lalu, serta dapat membantu dalam penentuan jenis tanaman sesuai kondisi lahan sekitarnya. Proses pemantauan juga dapat dilakukan secara realtime yang dapat diatur dalam berbagai satuan waktu.
