Banking Executive LaRoy Gorman seemingly had the world on a string. Gorman, a self made man who scaled the proverbial ladder of success, sat on the board of multiple charities and was a well respected member of the Charleston Business Community. On the evening of November 12, 1982, Gorman and his girlfriend were leaving the Steak and Ale Restaurant when he was struck by three (3) gunshots as he attempted to enter his vehicle. His assailant promptly peeled out of the parking lot, never to be identified. But what started out as a fairly straightforward investigation into one of Charleston’s most respectable citizens soon became muddled with confusion as revelations of Gorman’s personal life were brought into question.
