Author: Apostle Paul - one of his 4 Prison Epistles.
Date Written: Written around AD 62, while Paul was imprisoned in Rome.
Written To: Paul wrote to the believers in Philippi and to church elders and deacons.
Key Characters: Paul, Timothy, and Epaphroditus.
The joy of the Christian experience is the key theme running through this epistle. The words "joy" and "rejoice" are used 16 times in the epistle.
Difficult circumstances often make humans want to COMPLAIN and COMPETE against one another, and hoard resources to meet our own needs. But Paul invites us to remember how Jesus' selfless sacrifice leads to true life, freedom with joy. This Epistle of Philippians teaches that HUMILITY mixed with HOPE overcomes HARDSHIP and results in joy!
After coming through the year of release we want to move forward and not go back to captivity in any way. Listen to these statistics about going back in this image above please. Ask yourself: Am I Lord listening or am I Loud listening?
The Lord spoke through the apostle Paul by His Holy Spirit and told us that there were many voices in the world. The voices of the world speak very loud and they work on our unsanctified fear filled feelings. Remember God spoke to Elijah in First Kings chapter 19 in a still small voice and taught him the importance of intimacy in private with the Lord!
In this new year of 2024 the Lord by His Spirit through His Word is going to sanctify His church in the sense realm. He is going to help us have faith filled feelings, and sanctified senses so we can truly enjoy life and be a witness for the cross! If we will hold on to Him and His life filled words we will not recognize ourselves in a very short period of time. The Lord has chosen us and started this work of Sanctification in us but we must let Him to continue the process by doing our part (sanctify yourselves 9 times in the Old Testament):
*2 Corinthians 7:1 (KJV) Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
Will you raise your hand and lift your voice to the Almighty God and say Lord I will hear and receive and apply and allow you to shape me and mold me as my God, my Father, and my Potter, I will be softened by Your Spirit, in Jesus name!
We just came through the year that the Lord promised us RELEASE and now we can come into a year of REJOICING. We're going to open up this new year by going through the Epistle of Philippians. This is the epistle of joy! The joy of the Lord, Nehemiah 8 and 10 tells us is our strength! We will need the strength of the Lord to fulfill His calling and our destiny in this upcoming year.
