Ben and Rob travel back in time to 1918 with the second instalment of Ti West’s X trilogy ‘Pearl’. The origin story of the villain from ‘X’, Pearl lets us in on her young adult life and sparks a debate on whether violence is inherent by nature or nurtured within her by the nightmare that was 1918 America. We get a vivid insight into how Pearl LOVES spending her free time, whether it’s killing farm animals named after silent movie characters or abusing her severely disabled father, it’s all fun and games…?
So what was the state of cinema during the first world war? Is Pearl the best period drama of all time?
