Spiritual Gifts part 21: Word Gifts - Apostleship
Manage episode 305497608 series 2902857
Jesus spent an entire night praying, and when day broke he called his disciples to himself, and chose from them 12 whom he designated “apostles.”
These Apostles (and later the apostle Paul) became the foundation upon which the Church was established. They were sent out to preach, they had authority to heal and cast out demons, they bore witness to the resurrected Jesus, they had authority to write or approve scripture, and they established and gave oversight to the first churches.
But what about Barnabus? Timothy? Silas? James the brother of Jesus? Several others in scripture are referred to as “apostles,” yet don’t have the same unique characteristics as the twelve.
This brings up an important question. Is their a broader gift of apostleship (that bears some, but not all of the characteristics of the Apostles)? Does it exist in the Church today?
Tune in as Tim presents a biblical overview of Apostles, and wrestles through a controversial question: ‘do apostolic ministries exist today.’
