1980s cinema became a fertile ground for the Cold War techno-thilller and Director John Badham had two in 1983 with WarGames and Blue Thunder. Star Roy Scheider and Badham both felt strongly that the dangers of the constant surveillance state as well as military-grade armament of the police were not to be taken lightly.
