Malia Berkely currently plays for the North Carolina Courage in the NWSL. After being doubted as a player in her youth, she earned a place in the US youth national team camp from u-15 to u-23. At Florida State University she became the one of the most decorated players in the university’s history earning ACC Defensive Player of the year in 2019 & 2020, leading the team to three ACC Championship titles and an NCAA Championship title. Wanting to play in Europe like some of her early idols, she signed her first professional contact in France for Bordeaux in the top division, even appearing under Champions League lights. We talk about returning after ACL surgery, minor setbacks for major comebacks, celebrating the little victories, overcoming rough beginnings in college and in France, proving people wrong and herself right, incremental gains, continual growth and the way back to the USWNT.
