Mr. Johnson received his bachelor's degree cum laude from Kansas State University in 1975 and was awarded the Putnam Scholarship and inducted into Phi Kappa Phi honor society. He attended the University of Kansas School of Law in Lawrence, Kansas where he received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1978.

A practicing plaintiff’s trial lawyer through the 1980's, Mr. Johnson developed innovative uses of film, video and graphics for litigation and mediation. After relocating to San Jose, California in 1993, Mr. Johnson founded Second Chair Litigation Support to apply high-level demonstrative evidence techniques for major litigation projects. In 1998 Mr. Johnson co-founded Visual Forensics with Dr. Arthur Ginsburg in San Ramon, California. His animation work on a number of high profile cases received national attention, including a case involving a Marine EA-6B jet that struck a ski gondola near Cavalese, Italy, which received worldwide coverage. Mr. Johnson's work was featured on CBS 60 Minutes, NBC Today Show, ABC Good Morning America, and several network affiliates. His work was also featured several times on Court TV and has been highlighted in articles appearing in the New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News, Law Office Computing and other publications.

In 2002 Mr. Johnson founded Forensic Arts in Los Angeles. Today he is the founder and president of Visual Law Group in San Jose where he has pioneered the use of remote control drone technology and laser scanning for forensic visualization. Mr. Johnson is a consultant for Pix4D (the leading developer of photogrammetric mapping software) and FARO technologies (a leading manufacturer of laser scanners that have become the standard for accident reconstruction and forensic work).

To date, Mr. Johnson has handled forensic cases in every state of the union except for Vermont and Delaware. He is a frequent speaker and contributor of articles for trade publications and treatises in fields involving demonstrative evidence and computer animation.
