Whose Are You?

Sermon: Romans 14:7-8

Main Point: Christian, your life is not your own; you belong to Jesus, so glorify Him in both your life and death.

I. Your life is not your own – 14:7.

For not one of us lives for himself, and not one dies for himself – Romans 14:7 (NASB)

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. – 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Into your hand I commit my spirit; you have redeemed me, O LORD, faithful God. – Psalm 31:5

II. You belong to Jesus – 14:8b.

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works. – Titus 2:11-14

For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth. – Deuteronomy 7:6

For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised. – 2 Cor. 5:14-15

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. – 1 Peter 2:9-10

No Christian considers himself his own master or free to regulate His behavior according to his own will or his own ends. He is Christ’s servant and therefore endeavors to live according to Christ’s will and for His glory… We are entirely His, having no authority over our life or death. – Charles Hodge

III. So, live it out – 14:8a.

Application

1) Own His grace.

2) Own your identity.

3) Own your responsibility.
