Episode 37: Finding Your Chair of Joy with Sheryl Lynn
Manage episode 308334451 series 2889353
Today's Guest: Sheryl Lynn
When I was eight years old my brother threw a baseball bat at me and broke my nose. My tears, blood, and pain were dismissed and I was told to bottle up my pain; my nose healed, crooked. This breaking-point experience resulted in a perpetual feeling of being broken, lost, and displaced from others. As displacement alludes to, I went searching, outside of myself, for self-acceptance, success, and peace. I moved constantly, living in over forty homes, businesses succeeded and failed, including a tumultuous divorce and difficult custody battle.
Overwhelmed, exhausted, tearful, I was at my wit’s end after the three-year custody battle for my daughters. I needed to breathe.
I sat on the deck, near the beach at my friend’s cottage, the waves lapping in the moonlight and I took a deep breath. I could feel this tug at my heart to let the worry go, and to immerse myself in nourishing memories. I closed my eyes, took another deep breath, and thought of my daughters.
