4:20 pm As lifestyles and fashions change in the New World, many Desi immigrants – and especially women – change their attire and then find themselves with an abundance of unworn Indian garments that gather dust in their closets. This becomes more acute when a person passes away and then you discover that there is no secondary market for the old saris, lenghas and salwar kameezes. Longtime choreographer Kusum Sharma has found an ingenious way of recycling these clothes for the benefit of the poor and refugees in India and joins us today to tell us more.
5:00 pm The cost of college education continues to soar in the US, even at lower tier universities and community colleges and many students find themselves strapped for tuition and fees. Recognizing this need, several non-profits offer scholarships to help part of the way. One of these is the Bhalla Outstanding Student Scholarship or BOSS which offers an opportunity to compete for a $5,000 scholarship. To tell us more, we are joined by India Culture Center past and current Board members Swapan Dhairyawan and Sangeeta Dargan.
5:20 pm The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is now history with the Indian squad victorious in the finals played in Barbados. But this year, the weather was also a newsmaker due to the ravaging effects of Category 5 Hurricane Beryl which hit the island right after the finals. Many people – including the teams – were left stranded for a few days, including our reporter Rugwed Damle who made it out two days ago and is in our studio today to give a firsthand narrative about the finals and the aftereffects of the hurricane.
Also stay tuned in for news roundup, views, sports and movie reviews.
