Duizenden koppeltjes doen avond na avond de temperatuur stijgen in world’s finest ballroom “The Savoy” tijdens het lindyhoppen. In een ‘Battle of the Bands’ wordt in 1938 het huisorkest van Chick Webb (met Ella Fitzgerald) verslaan door het orkest van Basie met oa. Lester ‘Leaps in’ Young en Billie Holiday. Zij noemt hem The Prez, hij noemt haar Lady Day. In het turbulente leven van Billie Holiday, gekenmerkt door drank, drugs en foute mannen blijft Lester Young echter haar muzikale zielsverwant.
