Did you know that about a quarter of the world’s population menstruates, but most of them are not comfortable talking about it?
In this episode of #LaidOffLife, Jennifer and Jigna talk with Dr. Nicole Van Ness, a marriage and family therapist, specializing in sexual issues and disorders.

Dr. Nicole discusses the stigma around sexual health and the inability of our society to normalize this human experience. She explains the taboo around menstruation and how this impacts women’s work lives.

She further provides awareness about menses, its myriad symptoms ranging from mild to severe, and how vital it is for companies to normalize menstruation. Just because women have monthly cycles, they don’t underperform, and it should not be a reason for discrimination!

Dr. Van Ness talks about how patriarchy dictates societal norms by stigmatizing menstruation and how corporate America lacks empathy towards employees during their menstrual cycles. This episode further explores how frontline workers deal with menses and how men can experience mood and hormonal disorders as well. Tune in to learn more about normalizing menses as an essential bodily function.
