Federal agents raided the office of Rostov Governor Vasily Golubev on Saturday, two days before he announced his resignation “in connection with moving to a new position.” Sources told the news outlet 161.ru that the Federal Security Service suspects Rostov deputy city manager Alexey Logvinenko of “large-scale financial manipulations” reportedly related to the construction of facilities for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The agents’ interaction with Golubev reportedly ended with “a private conversation” and “a warning.”
Meduza cannot verify these reports at this time, and Golubev’s administration has not commented on the police action.
According to Meduza’s sources with knowledge of the Putin administration’s domestic planning, Golubev could be in line to represent the Rostov region in the Federation Council or join the presidential envoy’s office for Russia’s Southern Federal District.
