Our Filipino-American community boasts of some of the most talented breakdancers from various backgrounds. Let’s get to know our breakdancers and their inspiring stories of how they became bboys and bgirls, what inspired them, what they are doing during this pandemic and so much more!

Lyndon Apostol
Professional Breaking and Gymnastics Instructor
Lyndon debuted his professional stage-presence as the Rat King in Pacific Festival Ballet's The Nutcracker at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, propelling his career to perform in films, commercials, and musicals such as Mary Poppins, Mama Mia, West Side Story, and the new off-Broadway musical Comfort Women. His main focus this year is further developing his entertainment company's branch of dance instruction, InvEnt Dance.
Justin Foronda
Bboy, Restaurateur, Registered Nurse, Musician
Justin Foronda, a.k.a. Bboy JustFunk, is an L.A. based Bboy, restaurateur, Registered Nurse, and musician who attributes his creativity and work ethic to the dance he fell in love with in 1996. His passion manifests through his endeavors as he aspires to share his knowledge with his community.
Melissa Adao
Dance Educator
Melissa Adao, also known as MEL, represents 20+ years of dance education, community building and self-empowerment.
Paru Frances Herrera-Lim
Cross-cultural B-girl, Artist and Chef
Paru Frances Leanne Cariño Herrera-Lim (she/they) is a cross-cultural b-girl, artist and chef migrating from Virginia, Manila, London and Chicago. Sculpted by the nomadic nature of their formative years, she thanks DePaul University’s breaking (dance) club, The LAB (Chicago) and social justice theater, Free Street for catalyzing her creative energy. She relocated to L.A. in 2017 to expand her practice in guided movement + zine publication.
Nelson Labadie
Breakdancer and CEO of Picture Flicks
Nelson began breaking when he was five years old in the '80s before he moved to the Philippines for two years. He then started breaking again in 1991-1992 with a crew called Playskool Society. They preformed all over San Diego and they were present in all the Freestyle Session and B-boy Summit events. Nelson is now the CEO of Picture Flicks in San Diego, California, which is a premier headshot studio and content creator rental studio.
