Barry first found music when he borrowed his sister's record collection when he was about eight and was hooked. When Caroline started it was a new beginning, and he listened to all the stations, but Caroline was his favourite by far. Later he became a singer in a band, then started doing discos when he was 18. Cheryl Leavy, a proud Kooma Nguri author, has championed language revitalization and learning throughout her career. Her poem, Ngali-us two, about black queer love, won the Oodergeroo Poetry Prize in 2022. Her debut children’s book, Yanga Mother, written in both Kooma and English, reflects her passion for making language accessible for all mob.
