Hello everyone! This week we are focusing on Maya or the fog of illusion that prevails through the human experience. It's our work as yogis to cut through the fog with our practices and pursuit of clear vantage points.

One of the quotes shared in this episode:

Savage, extreme, rude, cruel, not to trust.
Enjoyed no sooner but despised straight,
Past reason hunted, and no sooner had,
Past reason hated as a swallowed bait
On purpose laid to make the taker mad:
Mad in pursuit, and in possession so,
Had, having and in quest to have, extreme,
A bliss in proof and proved, a very woe,
Before, a joy proposed, behind, a dream.

William Shakespeare Sonnet 129 (on lust)

ALSO:

We are in the middle of a mental health crisis. In addition to the horror of our current pandemic, the numbers are in and the increase in mental health problems is on the rise.

This the time to take preventative care for your mental health. Today, advocate for your mental health. It’s ok to not be ok AND it’s time to seek help.

If you’re feeling good, help someone else. Advocate for others. There are people in your community who are struggling- how can you direct them to resources and/or support them in any other way with their suffering. Consider the front line workers, consider those working tirelessly in the grocery store. How can we be more honest, more kind, more open?

Some ways to advocate for your mental health:

  • Seek help (see resources below for a place to start)
  • Set boundaries (turn the phone off, ask for help from your people, say NO)
  • Be vigilant about self-care practices (pray, journal, cook, call a friend, practice yoga, meditate, read- do whatever you need to advocate for your mental health)

Take care out there. We’re thinking of you!
