Monday morning live with Natasa Denman featuring one of her bravest authors, Vanshika Virmani. Vanhiska is the author of My Fight Against the Invisible Beast. She has written the book because she has had a typical anorexia nervosa for the past 9 years. However, she was not underweight. She eats every single day and has never been hospitalised for an eating disorder. Whilst struggling with anorexia, Vanshika completed a Bachelor of Actuarial Studies and Commerce and now work full time. So, in summary, she does not fit the stereotypical image of someone who is suffering from anorexia nervosa. With her condition, Vanshika decided to write the aforementioned book to create greater awareness about eating disorders (EDs) and share the things she has learnt through her experience. With her book, she is trying to show that eating disorders are more common than people realise. And, importantly, that there is hope and life despite the diagnosis of an illness that has such frightening connotations. Vanshika is not a psychologist, and she doesn't have a science background. She is merely talking through her own unique experience of living with an eating disorder. Key Takeaways: 1. What are some of the hidden signs from the perspective of someone struggling with an eating disorder – what can it look like? 2. What are some of the challenges in recovering from an eating disorder and why is it worth the hard work it requires? 3. What did I find most helpful and supportive during my fight against atypical anorexia. You can buy Vanshika's book via Amazon and other online platforms.
