Imagine you run HR for a company. You walk into the CEO's office with an idea - I want to bring the entire organization together for one week and have everyone review each other. They are going to hate doing it, the systems will be fractured, it will cost millions in employee's time, and the result will reduce productivity. The CEO would likely kick you out of her office or fire you because it's a really bad idea. Yet, we've been doing this for decades and most companies continue the practice of performance evaluations and reviews today. We asked Janine Truitt to join us on the show to call bullshit on performance evaluations and reviews. As Janine says "the contributions of human beings deserve more than a once-a-year summary of highlights and flawed behaviors to describe what they contribute to a company. Like most things in HR, we look for ways to file and rank people like cattle because it makes creating one-size-fits-all strategies and programs easy. Paying attention to individual contributions and matching that with meaningful moments and recognition is what makes coming to work and sacrificing family, time, and energy worth it for many people, but we would rather prioritize a process over people." Janine is the Owner/Chief Innovations Officer for Talent Think Innovations, LLC, a business strategy and management consulting firm. Her career spans fourteen years in HR and Talent Acquisition that has taken her through the world of pharmaceuticals, healthcare, staffing, and R&D. Janine is a dynamic speaker, entrepreneur, and an important and respected voice bringing both a human touch and business savvy to the companies and businesses she works with.
