Mike Ferguson in the Morning 12-19-24

(7:05am) Darrell Jones from the Herzog Foundation talks about how Christian schools around the country reacted to the tragedy in Madison, WI, along with school safety and security issues, school choice, and the Herzog Tomorrow Foundation.

The Lion newsletter showcased a few Christian schools with exemplary safety standards in light of the Wisconsin shooting. One school is in the St. Louis area. Missouri school on leading edge of creating safe environment as Christian schools respond to Wisconsin shooting. Christian school leaders around the country were mostly calm following a deadly shooting at a Wisconsin Christian school Monday, saying it led them to pray and consider their own preparedness for such situations. In conversations with several school directors, The Lion learned of various security measures Christian schools have already implemented, including new, cutting-edge innovations. Westminster Christian Academy in Town & Country, Missouri, even monitors an anonymous tip line for students and provides wearable panic buttons for staff. The tip line has been in place since 2018, the year Tim DeWitt, a retired Air Force police officer, became the school’s head of security.

Americans continue to support school choice post-election, surveys show. As lawmakers in many states gear up for new legislative sessions in January, polling once again found strong support for school choice measures among American voters. On Thursday, yes. every kid. released a new survey of 1,000 voters and school parents who broadly agreed about the need for more flexibility and parental rights in education. 54% of respondents believe the current K 12 system is too inflexible; 62% agree that more family control would benefit all students; 63% support universal access to public schools; 68% support open enrollment policies; 60% support education tax credits; 63% support education savings accounts (ESAs), a popular form of school choice; And 71% of the respondents who support ESAs also believe they should be universal and not limited by income or other factors. There's still time for Missouri taxpayers to redirect 50% of their Missouri tax liability to the Herzog Tomorrow Foundation so we can give more scholarships to students.
