Hispanic Heritage Series: Advancing Diversity in Psychology Leadership and its Workforce
Manage episode 379413693 series 3519350
According to 2019 data from the U.S. Census, approximately 58% of Americans describe their heritage as non-Hispanic White and 19% as Hispanic or Latino. That same year, 83% of the psychology workforce self-identified as White, 7% as Hispanic, 4% as Asian, and 3% as Black, according to APA’s Center for Workforce Studies data. As representation is lacking, especially amongst LatinX psychologists in public service sectors and the representation even worse in leadership positions, we must consider the importance of various levels of individual and community engagement.
In this podcast episode, we speak with Dr. Edgar Villarreal, an advocate and Latinx psychologist who works in the public service sector and has been a leader in APA’s Division 18.
