Hey Full House Fans, Angela Bowen here, the host of Oh Mylanta Holy Chalupas: An Unofficial Full House Fuller House Podcast. Today, I'm continuing my coverage of Jesse's Musical Career Journey with, Full House S5E5: The King and I, which aired on October 15, 1991. In this episode Jesse is on the verge of a record deal and ditches the annual Tanner family picnic to write a hit song. Struggling to find inspiration, help might be coming from an unlikely source. I thought this episode good, not one I watch a lot. After struggling to get signed by a music label, Jesse is offered a shot if he can come up with one hit song, he decides to burn the midnight oil, holing himself away in the studio until he can come up with the next earth shattering mega hit to light up the radio waves. I wouldn't sign him, just because every time he gets this chance, he changes his image or sound to what the music label is looking for in new artists and that doesn't work for Jesse. Plus he doesn't have any original music ready to go for them to hear. Coinciding with this is the Tanner Family Reunion, the family is paired off for the competing events, DJ/Steph in the 3 Legged Race, Joey/Becky in the Pie Eating Contest, and Jesse/Michelle in the Balloon Race. After a few days and no luck of a hit song, Jesse bows out of the Reunion, Michelle starts complaining that he's her partner until he finally snaps at her and walks out. I think Jesse struggles to write a song because he just sings covers and I think if he asked the advice of his other bandmembers, they could help and I feel should be included, since they're in the band too. Kimmy just happens to be there and inserts herself in Jesse's place. So this family reunion, I guess Joey, Jesse and Becky are basically grandfathered in because they all live in the same house, and are not of Tanner DNA. I was going to make the complaint family reunions are just that FAMILY gatherings. You don't invite friends, co-workers and neighbors (Jesse, Becky and Joey and now Kimmy), people they see on a daily basis, compared to people you see every few years. It just irked me is all. But if you invite the Tanners, you're inviting EVERYONE in that house including Comet. Jesse after his musical creative well has run dry, heads to a diner to get his creative juices flowing and winds up chatting it up with an Elvis look a like who tells him your babies aren't gonna care if you write a hit song and it makes a bunch of money, all they want is to know you love them and care for them. He also stresses how important family is and how wrong Jesse was to walk out on them by ditching the reunion. Jesse catches up to the family who are stranded in the woods after their van breaks down and he apologizes and all is well. Do they win the competitions, listen to find out? Join me in July when I cover Full House S5E15: Play It Again, Jesse, which aired on January 7, 1992. In this episode when Becky returns to work, Jesse is uncomfortable with being a stay-at-home father to Nicky and Alex. Have a great weekend and I hope you enjoy the podcast episode!
