Today, we are joined by Yarmila Alfonzetti. How do you innovate and reinvigorate an opera company in the era of short attention spans, the Bachelor and everyone wants to be famous talent shows? That is just the burning deck and challenging situation Yarmila was faced with when she recently took on the role as Executive Director of State Opera South Australia. If you think a podcast about opera sounds boring, then think again. Today's show is anything but boring, with insight flying a mile a minute. From Yarmila's youth playing six instruments and sneaking in to the opera house at intermission at her time at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. To insights into what makes a good culture, innovation and taking the opera to the people. How the arts in Australia is quite different to many other parts of the world. And, has a long way to go to engage new audiences and become a habitual part of life. And, perhaps no matter how much things change they perhaps stay the same. We discuss how to enjoy the Opera and hear about State Opera South Australia's latest show The Merry Widow directed by Graeme Murphy. And, Yarmila's focus on building a strong team to drive forward. Real People is a podcast hosted by Jason Dunstone, the founder and managing director of Square Holes. Subscribe to Real People on your favourite podcast player.
