Gacy var fullt klar over at hvis de andre innsatte ble klar over hva han faktisk var dømt for, altså anal voldtekt og kidnapping av unge gutter, så ville han være ille ute. Det første han gjorde i fengsel var derfor å være svært tydelig på at det han hadde gjort var å ha med seg noen søte 16-17 årige piker med seg hjem. Greit nok at de var litt på den yngre siden, men homofil pedofil var han overhodet ikke. Og han hadde ikke gjort jentene noe heller, forklarte ham. Det eneste han hadde gjort var å vise dem noen pornofilmer.
