We speak with Mario Alejandro Ariza, who writes for Floodlight.
We discuss the use of “Ghost candidates” in electoral races in Florida, and how various election spoilers are involved. These candidates are solicited and hired by “consultants” to run for office to reduce the chances of real candidates. These ghost candidates are not expected to win, but only to subvert the candidacy of others. The “consultants” are funded with dark money. This is usually a tactic used by Republicans and industry groups (Florida Power and Light) to prevent the success of reformers.
