I gauge the health of an organization’s culture, in part, by how fast or slow bad news travels. No one likes to hear it, but bad news that is ignored or hidden can be deadly to an organization. When bad news travels slowly, innovation is stifled, time and effort are wasted, and morale is generally very poor. Great leaders understand that driving positive results depends heavily on identifying issues fast so that they can be resolved. In this episode, I share two core reasons that bad news is stifled in an organization and three things that great leaders do to make sure bad news travels fast instead.
