Dr. Neil P. Sheth is the Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at Pennsylvania Hospital, Adult Hip and Knee Fellowship Director, and Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to attending medical school, he was an investment banker in Salomon Smith Barney’s Healthcare group on Wall Street.

Being able to manage your time, attention and energy were critical to success in the business world. Dr. Sheth discovered that the skillset he was exposed to on Wall Street was also paramount to the world of medicine.

Following medical school, Orthopaedic residency, and adult reconstruction fellowship training, Dr. Sheth joined the Penn faculty in 2012 and now spends a great deal of time with trainees to expose them the practice of managing time, attention, and energy while running a busy arthroplasty practice and being available for family.

The concepts he discusses in his interview can help you create a system to be professionally productive while minimizing stress.

Please review this article from a trainee on time management: Resident Shares Time Management Tips for Orthopaedic Surgery Trainees (aaos.org)
