Hasbro, the Providence-based toy maker of the Star Wars action figure line, has announced mass layoffs due to inflation and sluggish sales. Is that the only reason for the downturn in business? Could it be the constant barrage of repacks and repaints on multiple toy lines in an effort to keep costs down? Is the reliance of consumers buying without thinking about the price tag really the best strategy? On this episode of the Smugglers’ Galaxy Podcast, Glen and Jason dissect this news and try to decipher its meaning. Nearly a year ago, Hasbro announced a new strategy to push prices and double their profit margins - was that a step too far? As they discuss what this means, it’s important to remember 1,100 people are losing their livelihood.
