What comes to your mind when you think of meditation? For believers, meditating on Scripture might seem like an ancient, out-of-practice idea for the 21st century. Meditation on Scripture is vital to our faith as growing followers of Jesus.
Just think about how much Jesus relied on Scripture, as well as Paul, David, and other spiritual giants of the faith. Spending time in God's Word, memorizing it, thinking on it carefully, and delighting in it matures us in our faith and forms us in Christlikeness.
Psalm 1:1-3 says:
Oh, the joys of those who do not
follow the advice of the wicked,
or stand around with sinners,
or join in with mockers.
But they delight in the law of the Lord,
meditating on it day and night.
They are like trees planted along the riverbank,
bearing fruit each season.
Their leaves never wither,
and they prosper in all they do.
